Dr. Chanel Smythe was born and raised in Whistler BC, and is thrilled to be practicing in her hometown and the mountains! She has studied medicine and science for twelve years and has completed a Master’s of Science and a degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, WA. And a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from Boucher Institute in New Westminster, BC.
Chanel’s clinical practicum in Chinese medicine included shifts at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA, and she completed her clinical rotations in China at hospitals in both Shanghai and Chengdu. Following this she worked in rural Nepal for several months providing acupuncture and Chinese medicine to the remote community of Kogate and surrounding villages with the Acupuncture Relief Project. As part of her naturopathic clinical training she completed externships at Empower Health Clinic in Vancouver, and Positive Living BC. Positive Living BC is a clinic for HIV positive and underserved populations of Vancouver BC.
Dr. Chanel has a general practice with focus on women’s health/hormone imbalance, fatigue and burnout, concussion and traumatic brain injury, autoimmune disease, and sports injuries/pain management.
Dr. Chanel is here to help you connect the dots with your health concerns and uncover the root cause of disease. She has obtained many tools and lenses with which to apply to your health disturbances, and will work with you to find what will best facilitate your journey to optimal health. Treatment approaches are individually tailored and may include- diet and lifestyle modifications, acupuncture, botanical medicine (Western and Chinese approaches), orthomolecular medicine, IV and intramuscular nutrient injections, regenerative or pain management injections – prolotherapy and neural therapy, lab testing and pharmaceutical prescriptions.
Dr. Chanel holds certifications in Pharmaceutical Prescriptive Authority, IV Therapy, and Advanced Injection Therapies including prolotherapy and neural therapy. She has completed a variety of additional medical training’s, including a five-level series in clinical neurology via the Carrick Institute, and six-level training in the Tan Lineage of Balance Method/System Acupuncture.
Dr. Chanel holds dual licenses as a Naturopathic Doctor and a. Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner – she is licensed with both the the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia (CNPBC) and the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners of British Columbia (CTCMA).
When not practicing medicine, Chanel can be found skiing, trail running, hiking, biking, at the farmers market, adventuring, drinking good coffee and connecting with friends and family.
